    This show picks up with Duke Ellington and His Orchestra (aka The Washingtonians) finding their footing in New York City, and finding a level of success that rivalled their wildest dreams.

    After a tough start, Ellington soon found in Irving Mills a manager that had vision for the budding music business. He would quickly make Ellington one of the best-known and well-respected artists in the city, not an easy task in the Jim Crow era.
