Were it not for the 4th edition of Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music (released in 2000, almost a full decade after his death), our story would end here.

This show, then is technically the last issue of songs complied by Harry Smith himself, which were released in his lifetime. To my ears, it sounds like he wanted to end his series with a ‘bang’, and many of the songs featured herein are highlights of the set and feature a few songs whose longevity is obvious to any serious record collector.
