I call this episode “Things Are Looking Up” with my tongue firmly in cheek.

I mean, on one hand, things most certainly were looking up for Lady Day, as her name was becoming well known across the country and musicians had incredible respect for her talent, but on a social level, things remained as hard as they ever had been.

I suppose the good news for her was that she could sing her blues away, so I chose a song title to represent the latter half of 1937, but there are plenty of other song titles that would fit the bill; “I’ll Get By,” “Mean to Me”, “I’ll Never Be the Same”, or “Nice Work if You Can Get It” also hint at parts of her biography from this era.
