How Music Changed

An intoxicating mix of R&B and Country music monopolized the American music charts in the early ‘60s.

I must admit that I genuinely miss when the pop charts were this diverse and full of incredible songs good enough to last a lifetime. From Roy Orbison to Ray Charles, there was a sense of symmetry to the music, as though each artist listened to and appreciated each other. Rarely has pop music been as essential as it was in 1962.

    Featured songs include:

Twistin’ the Night Away – Sam Cooke

    She’s Got You- Patsy Cline

    Dream Baby – Roy Orbison

You Better Move On – Arthur Alexander

    Twistin’ Postmen - The Marvelettes

Something’s Got a Hold on Me – Etta James

Soul Twist – King Curtis & the Knights

I Can’t Stop Loving You – Ray Charles

    Night Train – James Brown

    Speedy Gonzales – Pat Boone

Having a Party – Sam Cooke

Twist and Shout – The Isley Brothers

Any Day Now (My Wild Beautiful Bird) – Chuck Jackson
