After punk, there was post-punk, which morphed into new wave and then (quite naturally) developed into post-new-wave. The post-new wave era was quite interesting, because it marked the point where music once again grew complicated.

The simplification of pop styles represented by punk rock was celebrated by most as a means of getting rid of old rock stars with bloated, over-produced concepts, but the natural progression of styles meant that all roads eventually led back to where we were in the first place. Most of the music in this show was accepted by fans as a natural extension of punk music, but the songs heard here have precious little, if anything, in common with its forebear. By 1983, most pop music was again melodic, well produced and often complex.

We came a long way, only to wind up back where we started!
