Faces - A Nod Is as Good as a Wink... to a Blind Horse
Album #181- November 1971
Episode date - September 23, 2020
In my world, I’d revise the rock and roll mantra of ‘sex, drugs and rock n’ roll’ to sex, booze and rock and roll. On that basis, The Faces’ third album wins hands down as my entry for the most ‘rock and roll’ record of all time.
To my taste, it has all three of the above in absurdly huge proportions, balanced out by songwriting that is humorous, intelligent and genuinely touching. For years, I’ve often stated that I would rate “A Nod Is as Good as a Wink…” as my all-time favorite album because it works so well without trying too hard. On almost every level, it’s a perfect mess of an album, and so I will stand by that opinion. I’ve waited almost fifty years for something to better it, but I just can’t imagine anything touching its raucous glory.
