With their third album, Simon and Garfunkel came into their own, or perhaps it would be more accurate to state that they finally found a way to get comfortable within the expectations of the times.

Their first album was pure folk music, full of well meaning songs about the importance of faith, the horrors of war and the cruelty of prejudice. In other words, it was a stereotypical folk album for the times. Their second album caught the pair trying to weld those same ideas onto rock and roll rhythms, an blend that was sometimes awkward or inappropriate for the material. On “Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme,” they finally found a way to create a seamless blend that remained true to their roots while sounding thoroughly contemporary.
