The Who: Who's Next
Album # 173 - August 1971
Episode date - July 22, 2020
There are so many things about “Who’s Next” that are thoroughly amazing, but to me, the most amazing thing about this album is that I’m not thoroughly sick of it.
Quite honestly, even recently, there have been days when I’ve heard “Behind Blue Eyes” three times in less than six hours, but that has not diminished my respect for that song, or this album by even one iota. If a song can withstand overplay by a factor that transcends “Hotel California” or even “Sweet Home Alabama”, then it is quite obvious that we are discussing something that is intrinsically special, and “Who’s Next” not only fits that bill but defines it.
This, to me, is THE perfect ‘classic’ rock album. By now, it’s so well known that it completely transcends any critical consideration. Either you love it or you don’t care, but I feel sorry for you if you don’t.
