People who are only familiar with Elton John through his multiple decades of pop hits will be very surprised and maybe even shocked by 11/17/70.

Back in the days before “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, or “Rocket Man” or even “Levon”, Elton John released four studio albums with a healthy amount of excellent country-tinged material. “Your Song” made him popular in America and his third album, “Tumbleweed Connection”, sold strong enough for John to do a few showcase shows in America.

Those who were lucky enough to be there had no idea what was about to hit them. Playing with only drums and bass for accompaniment, Elton John played like a madman, causing audiences to erupt at the raw power of his performance. It took only minutes to recognize his genuine star power, but this rough but ready style of performing would not last long, as he would soon expand his band and alter his basic approach to performing live. Thank goodness we have this document to hear what he sounded like before all the glitter got in the way.
