Procol Harum: A Salty Dog
Album #102 - May 1969
Episode date - January 10, 2018
No matter how you cut it, Procol Harum are an unusual band. The absence of a genuine front man or superstar to serve as the face of the band meant that most people would pass them over, and yet the band has some of the most passionate fans I’ve known.
Quite honestly, I was one of those people who managed to ignore everything but the hits, but a few friends who are dedicated fans kept pushing me to go deeper. Their catalog of albums is quite eclectic, and I still think that Procol Harum is an acquired taste. To my mind, “A Salty Dog” is as close as they come to making a work of art that is also a genuine crowd pleaser, and the more I listen, the more I appreciate.
