It’s sad to think that this is the album that tore the Experience apart as a band, and also the reason that Jimi would lose Chas Chandler as his producer (and ultimately as his manager as well).

By just about anyone’s standard (except Jimi’s) the sessions were a completely uncontrolled mess that seemed to result in nothing worthy of an album. Instead, it is the album that is generally considered to be Hendrix’s studio masterpiece. Over the four sides, you can sense the loose structure and the wobbly sense of direction, but it’s impossible to deny that the album is a timeless classic that has withstood the test of time for over a half-century.
