As time passed, The Monkees went through a series of reunions. The earliest was the least successful, in both sales and participation, as only Dolenz and Jones showed up.

It would take another decade before Tork agreed to sign on for the next reunion, but Mike stayed away, as he was still quite active with his solo career (see last week’s show). It was at this point in time when the reunited Monkees (three of them) had their first top 40 hit since 1969, but it would be yet another decade before Nesmith relented.

In 1996, twenty-eight years after Peter Tork quit, the four Monkees were once again playing together. The album “Justus” marks the first time that Monkees wrote all of their own material,  played all instruments and handled the production. The album is surprisingly very good, and full of surprises.

The reunion was a success, and the band continued to tour and play together, with nothing to stop them except for the grim reaper. All songs are by the Monkees, unless indicated otherwise.
