Three Classic Albums
February 1973
Episode date - February 27, 2013
You know an album is classic if you associate it with a specific time and place – where you were the first time that you heard it, or maybe a road trip where you played the album constantly.
These albums are kind of like that for me. I was not familiar with any of them at the time of their release, though. I discovered each of these records a few years after their release, and my own memories stem from high school and a family trip to Texas back in 1976. Back then, I didn’t know how these albums would grow on me, and I definitely did not expect that I might still care about them forty years later (although I’d rather not dwell on the time that has passed!).
Here are a few tracks from three albums that I feel still stand up after all these years. Featured songs include;
1) Sail On, Sailor – The Beach Boys (‘Holland’)
2) Steamboat – The Beach Boys (‘Holland’)
3) The Trader – The Beach Boys (‘Holland’)
4) Two Trains – Little Feat (‘Dixie Chicken’)
5) Roll Um Easy – Little Feat (‘Dixie Chicken’)
6) On Your Way Down – Little Feat (‘Dixie Chicken’)
7) Fat Man in the Bathtub – Little Feat (‘Dixie Chicken’)
8) Still Feeling Blue – Gram Parsons (‘GP’)
9) A Song For You – Gram Parsons (‘GP’)
10) That’s All It Took – Gram Parsons (‘GP’)
11) The New Soft Shoe – Gram Parsons (‘GP’)
