This show is an unusual break from our typical scheme of things. It’s always a pleasure to talk with the author of a book, especially when music is involved, but it becomes extra special when we can also talk with the musician who inspired the book in the first place.

That just so happens to be the case here. Peter Rowan is a legend in his own time, known universally as a first-rate musician and songwriter who has played with some of the most highly rated musicians on the planet. His time with Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys says enough about his own talents as a musician, but he is equally known for his abilities as a songwriter and lyricist. Author Mike Fiorito discovered Rowan’s music and developed a special connection with him, so strong that it inspired him to write a book that focuses on the spirituality of Peter Rowan’s music, and the effect that is has made not only on his own sense of consciousness, but on the world at large.
