    By 1971, Stax no longer had a discernible sound of their own. Their recordings were coming from much too many sources for there to be any real continuity, but that isn’t to say that the quality was lost.

    Many of the tracks from this era are quite excellent, as shown by our selections, but the truth is that the sound that emanated from Mclemore Avenue in Memphis had dwindled down to a very small percentage of the label’s releases.

    Featured tracks include;

    1) You’ve Got to Earn It – The Staple Singers

    2) Hold On to It – The Limitations

    3) Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get – The Dramatics

    4) That Other Woman Got My Man and Gone – Margie Joseph

    5) Blood Is Thicker than Water – Eddie Floyd

    6) Hijackin’ Love – Johnnie Taylor

    7) The Breakdown – Rufus Thomas

    8) Where Would You Be Today – Ilana

    9) Got to Get Away from It All – The Soul Children

    10) Sweetback’s Theme – Melvin Van Peebles
