The History of Gospel Music: The Golden Gate Quartet
Episode 8
Episode date - May 9, 2025
If there was one band that inspired me to pursue Gospel Music and all its stylistic virtues, that band would be the Golden Gate Quartet.
I became aware of them in my teen years, and they were so radically different from everything else I was listening to that it was impossible to not pay attention. The precision of their rhythms, the perfection of their harmonies, the smooth grace of their style and their playfulness all overwhelmed me, and I have a dedicated fan ever since.
This will be one of my favorite all-time episodes in the entire ‘How Music Changed’ series, because I feel as though I am sharing something so special that it almost feels sacred to me.
