In 1968, the Rolling Stones pulled off something like a miracle. Their past few albums portrayed a band barely holding on to its creative core, or even its relevance. “Satanic Majesty’s Request” was so far off the mark that it was difficult to discern if the band mattered any longer. Amid numerous drug busts and Brian Jones’ dwindling mental stability, the band appeared to be doomed.

As if he thrived on the chaos, Keith Richard rallied and came up with some of the best material of the band’s career, eclipsing all expectations. Jagger’s words provided the necessary attitude, portraying a band on the edge of society and on the brink of failure, with an edge that made no compromise to either. The Rolling Stones may have temporarily lost their mojo, but it comes roaring back with “Beggar’s Banquet”.
