“The Who Sell Out” represented one of the purest pop art concepts ever attempted in music, but on the album itself, it feels like The Who grew tired of the idea before they even finish the album.

Side two drifts far from the concept as it progresses. As a ‘leftover’ tune from an abandoned rock opera project of Pete’s, “Rael” had absolutely nothing to do with the concept, and subsequent singles seemed to suggest that the Who had run out of good ideas. This show captures the band as it struggled into yet another phase of their career.
