Simon & Garfunkel: The Rhythm of the Saints
Episode 14
Episode date - April 29, 2016
As outsiders, it always seemed unusual that Simon and Garfunkel were so often at odds with one another, but once you look beneath the superficial surface of what we imagined their relationship to be, it becomes quite apparent why these issues never quite resolved themselves.
After the pair broke up, they both continued to use Roy Halee as their ‘go to’ producer/engineer, but he could only be in one place at a time, which caused numerous scheduling difficulties, especially when Simon would undertake highly ambitious and laborious projects. This often left Garfunkel sitting on the wayside until Halee became available, and he saw his career suffer in some ways as a result of those delays. Of course, he did have the opportunity to work around that specific problem, but both individuals felt a certain sense of entitlement, which caused resentment, and things only got more complicated from there.
At this point in time, Garfunkel is struggling to retain relevance in a rapidly changing market, while Simon saw his career dramatically rejuvenated – which also caused tensions.
