Simon & Garfunkel: Parsley, Sage...
Episode 4
Episode date - February 19, 2016
Once “The Sounds of Silence” became a surprise hit, things started to happen very quickly for Simon and Garfunkel.
They rush-released their second album in January, only weeks after the single took off, and were quickly billed on a rock and roll tour, performing as one of the headlining acts. Two singles quickly followed back to back – both of them hits – and then another album was prepared for release in September.
In many ways, the album “Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme” showed artistic growth, even though much of the material dated back to Paul’s time in England. The production was richer, and the arrangements betrayed the work and effort expended by Simon, Garfunkel and producer Roy Halee. This is the album that sealed the duo’s reputation and it went a long way toward proving that their sudden success was no fluke.
