    1964 was certainly the year of the Beatles. 1965, though, was something different. With all of that Beatle music floating around and influencing our culture, it was only a matter of time before that influence would be evident. Two things happened as a direct result of the Beatles magnificent debut year in America. First, there were suddenly a lot of American bands playing under the direct influence of British invasion bands, and second, there were a LOT more British bands hitting it big in America. Since this show concerns itself exclusively with the British Invasion, it’s the second group of acts that interest us most here.

    If 1964 was the year of the Beatles, then 1965 was the year of the rock and roll band. While each of our four previous shows relied very heavily on output from the Fab Four, today’ show displays just how much competition had arisen in their wake. This episode covers just two months, from January to February 1965. In that time, the Beatles did not release anything (their two-sided single from December ’64 – “I Feel Fine/She’s a Woman” - was still at the top of the charts, and their label, Capitol Records, would hold out until March for their next release). That two-month timeframe was a virtual window of opportunity for other British bands, and every song played in today’s show debuted on the American charts during those two short months.

    So, this show is something of a rarity – a British Invasion show that does NOT have any songs by the Beatles.

    Tracks played today include;

    1) She’s Not There - The Zombies
