At this point in their career, the Byrds were becoming essentially irrelevant to the music culture that spawned it.

Numerous personnel changes, stylistic changes and inconsistent record releases all added up to a public that grew indifferent to the Byrds, and their album sales deteriorated. In a last ditch attempt to salvage the band’s name and reputation, Roger McGuinn reunited the original Byrds, but it was a project destined to fail, with each member already committed to other musical projects.

As time passed, though, a renewed interest in the band slowly sparked and rejuvenated the band’s reputation. The popularity of country rock, and then Americana, caused fans to revisit the band’s catalog, and now each release is praised in one way or another for its relevance as an important linchpin in the development of American music. These songs mark the last days of the Byrds.
