After completing the rather astonishing opera “Porgy and Bess”, the Gershwins returned to doing what their audience loved them for – writing songs that accompanied stories.

With the emphasis on films and Hollywood rather than stages and Broadway, the brothers found themselves working on the west coast, away from their beloved New York City. Nevertheless, inspiration continued to flow, with memorable songs pouring out of them.
