The Rolling Stones: Satanic Stones
Episode 17
Episode date - December 6, 2013
Anybody who secretly (or openly) wished to be a member of the Rolling Stones, or at least to live their lifestyle, would have to be grossly misinformed. All evidence, especially that from 1967, portrays a seriously dysfunctional band where drugs caused immense problems with the law and even worse, their own psychology. In retrospect, it is astounding that the band could exist and make music at all.
‘Their Satanic Majesties’ Request’ was a sardonic response to ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’. The Rolling Stones were not built for psychedelia, but their personal difficulties steered the band toward reacting to the times rather than formulating their own direction. The underbelly of the summer of ‘love’ and flower power was a thorough disenchantment with society coupled with drug induced confusion, paranoia, fear and resentment. The Rolling Stones now really were representing the dark side.
