Forty years ago this month, the Who released Quadrophenia. The Who have had one of the most unusual and confounding histories of any rock and roll band. They are often associated with the British Invasion, yet they didn’t have a top 40 hit until 1967.

They are often considered to be the epitome of ‘classic’ rock, yet their work has always been challenging and idiosyncratic. They are associated with the most important festivals of rock and roll history (Woodstock, Monterey, etc.), but they played these events to a public that barely knew their music.

For this show, we will dedicate the entire hour to playing extracts from Quadrophenia, while discussing the band’s unusual history with Michael Rosenbloom, author of “When Stars Were in Reach,” a book about the Who’s appearance at his high school gymnasium in 1967. Hope you enjoy the show!
