For Episode 14 in our American Guitar series, I thought we could do something unusual for a guitar history, and focus on an artist who is not particularly lauded for his guitar stylings.

Hank Williams is one of America’s best songwriters and a magnificent interpreter of great songs, but not many focus on his guitar prowess. We aren’t here today, though, to discuss Hank’s guitar playing, but rather, that of his myriad bandmembers. Few artists had more opportunity to influence the state of guitar in country music, and so we will spend the next hour focusing on Hank’s electric and slide guitar accompanists.
