It is sad that Brian’s active tenure with the Rolling Stones ended with an album that is so unlike the rest of the Rolling Stones catalog. The band did not take well to psychedelia, although Brian certainly had a keen penchant for that style of music.

For the Rolling Stones, the times determined the style, rather than vice-versa, and Brian became the figure to signify all that was horrible about the era; the drugs, the paranoia, the violence...Proper society was tearing at the seams and ultimately, it cost Brian his life.

He would hang around on the fringes, surviving until 1969, but his input to the Rolling Stones would be sporadic at best. He was like a fragile, unpredictable and moody ghost existing on the fringes of society, and also the band he helped to create.
