The Rolling Stones: The First Album
Episode 4
Episode date - August 30, 2013
Part 4 in our series dedicated to the Rolling Stones finds the band tearing full-bore into their first album.
Their intentions were to become England’s home base for American blues, spreading the word far and wide about a musical style that had been both maligned and misunderstood by the general public both here and abroad. Thusly, the first album gathers together eleven songs derived from the American blues/R&B songbook, with only one original tune.
Strangely, the original tune was not a blues tune, indicating that the new songwriting team of Jagger/Richard had been observing their British counterparts, the Beatles, and then attempting (unsuccessfully) to tear a page from their pop music lesson book. Songwriting did not come naturally to this pair, but time was on their side.
