By 1958, it became increasingly difficult to discern a difference between rock and roll and rhythm and blues.

Kids just didn’t give a whit about racial segregation, so while society in general, including the music charts, continued to draw lines between the two cultures, rock and roll played a significant role in changing that perspective, as can be seen by many of the songs on today’s playlist, dating from the Spring of 1958.

    Featured tracks include:

    Twilight Time – The Platters

Talk to Me, Talk to Me – Little Willie John

What Am I Living For? – Chuck Willis

Johnny B. Goode – Chuck Berry

    Rumble – Link Wray

Purple People Eater – Sheb Wooley

    Yakkety Yak – The Coasters
