How Music Changed

By the Spring of 1968, Pop music was moving in every direction at the same time.

It was getting harder (“Jumping Jack Flash”), softer (“This Guy’s in Love with You”), rootsier (“Paying the Cost to Be the Boss”), more eccentric (“MacArthur Park”), heavier (“Angel of the Morning”) and stupider (“Yummy Yummy Yummy”) than it had previously been. It was pushing boundaries on all sides, making it one of the most interesting and challenging periods in pop music.

    Featured tracks include:

Ain’t No Way – Aretha Franklin

This Guy’s in Love with You – Herb Alpert

Mrs. Robinson – Simon and Garfunkel

    MacArthur Park – Richard Harris

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy – Ohio Express

    Think – Aretha Franklin

Paying the Cost to Be the Boss – B.B. King

Grazing in the Grass – Hugh Masekela

Jumpin’ Jack Flash – The Rolling Stones
