    This is the real thing…the thing that seemed to change the world…eventually. The Velvet Underground and Nico’s ‘banana album’, with Andy Warhol’s cover design, sold so poorly that most people didn’t hear it until decades later but by then, it was already iconic.

    It was said that this album sold under thirty thousand copies in the first few years of its release, but it was Brian Eno who said “everybody who did buy a copy started a band.” That is probably truer than it sounds, as this may well have the most long-term influential effect on the state of music than any other album.
