I’ve loved this album since I was a child (and I certainly was, since I was barely eleven years old when it was released), so it is easy for me to speak in terms of adulation when discussing “Crosby, Stills and Nash”.

For instance, I believe that, due to circumstances beyond his control, Stephen Stills may have been single most creative human being on the planet at this time. The dissolution of Buffalo Springfield was a factor, but his separation from Judy Collins was by far the single most inspiring event of his life at this point. It was certainly cathartic, but he was poised to capture his emotions with sincerity and clarity, resulting in some of the most well-structured pop/love songs of his generation.

Fate may have played against his best interest, but the stars aligned for his expression to soar, and the rest of us benefited from his pain. This ‘supergroup’ represented a real game-changer in rock and roll history, and Stephen Stills provided the inspiration that fueled it.
