American Studios may have ceased to exist, Fame may have sold their soul to the devil of commerciality, and Stax might have been hurtling toward bankruptcy, but our story of Memphis and Muscle Shoals is still not over. The four-man rhythm section that cut their teeth at Fame and then started their own recording studio found themselves getting all sorts of interesting work. Some of it was a stretch from what they had been famous for, but they weren’t the kind of guys to turn away from a challenge. Their projects may not have all been chock full of hits, but the net results often included recordings that still stand up to the test of time. Oh, and some of them were spectacularly successful as hits, too. Featured tracks include;

Let It Be – Aretha Franklin

Home Sweet Oklahoma – Leon Russell

She Smiles Like a River – Leon Russell

Down South Jukin’ – Lynyrd Skynyrd

The Three Great Alabama Icons - Drive-By Truckers

Sitting in Limbo – Jimmy Cliff

I’ll Take You There – The Staple Singers

The Low Spark of Hi-Heeled Boys - Traffic
