In an era when Laurel Canyon became the focal point of contemporary music, Joni Mitchell was the queen of the Canyon.

Her first three albums brought her recognition and respect, but her fourth album, “Blue”, remains a definitive statement regarding the singer-songwriter era both chronologically and geographically.

In the midst of her fame, Mitchell left the United States to travel through Europe, a seemingly unusual thing to do when building a career, but it gave her a chance to get away from personal issues while allowing her the freedom to write. It was also perceived as a personal statement to convey that the record business did not own her.

Ideas flowed and Mitchell opened up her soul, baring her vulnerabilities and innermost thoughts without restraint, while conveying a full breadth of moods, from regret and insecurity to playfulness and independence.
