    From today’s perspective, the movie “Help!” seems almost quaint and overtly silly, but in 1965, it was a reasonably innovative piece of work.

    Although he wasn’t acutely aware of it at the time, filmmaker Richard Lester had ushered in the birth of the music video, while incorporating elements that would eventually lead to all sorts of cultural shifts (the “Biff!” “Bang!” “Pow” of the Batman television series, the creation of the Monkees, etc.). The Beatles were relaxed enough (with some herbal assistance) to fake their way the relative morass of a plot, but through the cracks it was easy for the typical Beatles fan to see that four Beatles had outgrown their ‘moptop’ image.

    The songs reflected a level of maturity that contradicted the zany script, but in the end, it was the songs that saved the movie.

    Songs featured include;

    1) You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away
