Episode #29 in our ongoing coverage of every sanctioned-release by the Beatles finds us at the end of the band’s second tour of America, and then heading back home to England to prepare for a new album - an album that they were thoroughly unprepared for.

It’s rather stunning to discover that while ‘Rubber Soul’ remains one of the Beatles’ most loved and respected albums, the truth is that they started these recording sessions with virtually no material. Such was the talent of John Lennon and Paul McCartney (not to mention George Harrison, whose owns burgeoning talents as a songwriter were now coming into play) that songs were conjured and set to tape with an immediacy that was as astonishing as the songs themselves.
